One year I was covering the A's and they clinched a playoff spot before they had clinched the division. On the day they clinched a playoff spot, they all had a toast with champagne in little plastic glasses. Then they went wild after winning the division.

That was, I believe, in 2002, their third consecutive postseason appearance.

I think the Rays are entitled to pop the champagne as often as they want.
