This had me on the floor, laughing. And crying.

Hits so close to home.

Funny.

On a side note, I guarantee someone in my newsroom gets the swine flu.

I got 7-5 odds on our cops reporter, who earlier this year made the brilliant decision to try and ration his insulin and ended up in the local ICU.

Someone actually still has insurance that actually pays for stuff? Now that's a scoop worthy of A1.

Funny stuff. I'm sending it to my friends telling them this is what it is like to work at a newspaper.

Good stuff.

Only one thing missing, which would have made it a great piece of work:

Editor: "What about Johnson? Does he still work for us?'

City editor: 'Yes, he does"

Editor: 'Then get him on the swine flu story."

City editor: 'We can't."

Editor: "Why not?"

City editor: "He's on furlough."

Thanks for the link, Buck. Funny stuff (in a sad-but-true way).

Also, in our shop last night, we noticed HR posted a note saying that with Swine Flu ravaging the nation, anyone who feels sick shouldn't come to work.

With our morale absolutely in the crapper, that at least made everyone laugh. Hey, I think we all feel the swine flu coming on! Maybe all these managers who split at 4:30 can put out the paper!

I'm sure what wasn't mentioned was the fact that a lot of places, including mine, have cut way back on sick days in the past several years. So yeah, I'm REAL likely to burn a bunch of sick days in April, knowing that if I get sick in October, it's like my own special furlough.

Yes with sick days gone and all the pay cuts you won't see many "journalists" staying home with the swine flu. Great great post and great add about the one reporter not being able to cover it cause "he's on furlough." Priceless.
