Succession Season 4 — Spoilers Included

Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

I fell victim to the machinations, rooting for certain ones, only to get "blindsided", then hope renewed. I actually enjoyed the bit players' quips more than the main ones (although Romans were always spot on). Then at the conclusion, not what I was thinking. BUT rather than feeling sorry for any of the kids, I reminded myself, THEY'RE GETTING A GOLDEN PARACHUTE OF BILLIONS!! So that smoothed everything over for me.

Not a rewatchable for me; I'm not one by nature (haven't even done GOT even, only ones I do are Seinfeld and the Office and Parks and Rec)

I liked it but.... There are only so many times you can watch characters make the same mistakes over and over. (With exceptions, of course, Charlie Brown.) Four seasons is enough if no learning curve kicks in.

Was Shiv the Chekhov’s gun of names?

Always thought it was weird that a Scottish father and English mother gave their daughter an Irish name.

Shiv and also Wambsgams (as pointed out on the internet, the last name of the only player ever to pull off an unassisted triple play in the World Series)

Also trying to figure out how Logan and Ewan spent any time in Scotland to get those accents, support Hearts (or Hibs) and do the bird watching.

I just rewatched the Ewan eulogy. What a tour de force:

Oh yes, he gave away a few million of his billions but he was not a generous man. He was mean, and he made but a mean estimation of the world and he fed a certain kind of meagreness in men. Perhaps he had to because he had a meagreness about him and maybe I do about me too, I don’t know. I try. I try. I don’t know when but sometime he decided not to try anymore and it was a terrible shame.

I've watched the first two seasons. I've never seen characters so cynically, blatantly, ham-handedly manipulated. Nothing matters in this show. People are just dropped in to move things along.

Finally bought MAX to catch up and finish it off. My goodness what a rich show. Like a steak!
I didn’t realize that the actor who plays the ATN election numbers guy Darwin also plays Archie on The Great. Which is a fantastic show in its own right.
Also the teacher on stage for the song in Love Actually and a juicy little swedish crime comedy called Fallet - 8 eps, a great spacer between shows that require a bigger commitment.

The Logan death was perfectly chaotic. So glad to realize Matthew Macfadyen won a couple of Emmys for his turn as Tom. First saw him the BBCs "Snoop/MI-5" show where he played a guy nothing like Tom. So seeing him here was incredible. Not just the goofiness, but the sadness, the insecurity, the treachery as well. All wrapped in his aloof, yes-man persona. Not sure I've ever seen a character like him, played with that many "textures" or whatever.
Always wondered about how they came up with his last name. Roy was pretty clear. Shiv was pretty clear. Figured "Ken" was a reference to the doll who "looks the part" but is missing something down there. And Roman, fairly on the nose.
So does Succession 2.0 pick-up a couple years later with Kendal and Roman running PGN? Competing with ATN? Jimenez in the White House? I'm not expecting another season or whatever. The writers did an amazing job with the various arcs, but agree that the third was getting a bit "Spy v. Spy or Road Runner and Wiley Coyote."
The whole show kind of made me think of what happened to the Lakers. And what has happened to our country.
