Description:
The National newspaper in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced, aggressive and talented web editor to take our online sports coverage to the next level.

We have a growing audience, both local and international, and we're looking for someone with the skills, creativity and initiative to lead the way in building and implementing a strategy for reaching even more readers.

The opportunities for continued growth are almost limitless: Our "local" coverage area is vast, from the English Premier League to the Volvo Ocean Race, from a full calendar of big-time international events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai (golf, tennis, cricket, Formula One, rugby, horse racing) to local sports leagues.

• The ideal candidate will have at least five years' experience in online sports journalism and a proven track record of delivering results (i.e., page views) in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

• He or she must adapt to new technologies efficiently and effectively.

• Being able to edit stories and write clear, concise, web-friendly headlines is essential.

• Knowledge of international sports is a plus; being able to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment is essential.

The National offers a competitive salary, full health benefits and five weeks of paid vacation per year.

If interested, please send a resume and cover letter to sports editor Robert Mashburn at [email protected]

The pay, from what I understand, is pretty damn good with incentives.

Friends/ex-co-workers have been there for two-plus years. It's not for everyone, but they're still there. One is in sports and he gets some cool assignments. Also, the great Chuck Culpepper works there.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
Isn't that where Garfield sent Nermal? If so, I'm staying away from that damn kittie.

Buddy of mine went to work for a paper in Abu Dhabi. May have been this outfit. I'm not sure. His take: "We're making like the 1990s over here. Fully staffed newsrooms, good pay and up-to-date technology. Almost makes you forget that most of the time you're a mouthpiece for the Sheik."

Yes, it's pretty good. And I believe they pay you one round trip airline ticket to the U.S. a year.

If anyone has questions about the position, the newspaper or the country, feel free to e-mail me. We have 50-plus applications already, but if you have experience and talent, the door is still open.
The highlights:
• The pay is good, and it's tax free.
• The weather is exceptional six months of the year (and very, very hot the other six).
• In addition to 5 weeks vacation, there are 10-12 national holidays per year.
• Perks include round-trip airfare home once a year for you and family members who live with you here.
• Don't let statements like "there are terrorists in the neighborhood" deter you. Abu Dhabi is, without a doubt, the safest place I have ever lived.
Thanks for the interest.
