The Valley Times-News has an immediate opening for a sports reporter and is looking for an energetic, self-starter to cover local sports. Valley Newsmedia, LLC is looking for someone who has a passion for athletics to cover seven local high schools, a local college and youth sports in Chambers County, Alabama. The chosen candidate will need to be comfortable with everything from heartwarming feature stories to game stories written on deadline. This position will include night and weekend work.
This position will also include work for Valley Newsmedia’s bimonthly magazine, Valley Living, and the responsibility of helping to grow The Valley Times-News’ social media audience.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications
Recommended skills
Proven reporting, writing and editing skills
Pagination experience, or use of Adobe InDesign
Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Acrobat and Gmail
Knowledge of AP style
Ability to develop relationships with community leaders, news sources
Proficiency with social media applications, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Experience with content generating websites like WordPress
Ability to contribute story ideas
Ability to shoot quality photographs as needed
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products (including InDesign and Photoshop) is a plus
