Highlands Today, a 15,000-plus circulation daily in Sebring, Fla., is searching for a sports reporter who understands that all levels of sports coverage are important for community newspapers, from little league, high school to community college sports. You will cover the world-class racing at Sebring’s historic 12 Hours of Sebring. Just as important, you’ll be covering youth baseball, soccer, softball and any other sport under the sun. The ability to take strong sports photos is a must. Night and weekend work is required. If you have a year or more covering sports for a newspaper, or are a recent college graduate from journalism program with strong internships, you might be the right candidate for our sports team. Little league to community college is not exactly "all levels."

As a former HT man, here's the skinny:
-The town is chock-full with old people & no night life. No single women at all.
- You will spend the entire summer covering Dixie baseball. With limited AP, what else can you do.
- The paper's wonky deadlines mean everything is a day late. Tuesday's gamers are in Thursday's edition, so featurizing is the rule of thumb.
- You'll be covering pretty mediocre preps. The prep baseball stadiums down there are old spring training ballparks & they are quite nice.
- The cost of living there is pretty steep & there weren't inexpensive places to rent there, at least when I was there.
- The race is the best week of the year. But it only lasts a week & it's back to the grind.
