The Picayune Item, an award winning daily news publication, is seeking a full time sports/news writer.
The position involves reporting on local sporting events, as well as a wide variety of other topics.
Responsibilities include page layout, photography and updating the company’s website and social media accounts.
The ideal candidate must be able to meet deadlines and know AP style.
Experience with InDesign and Photoshop is preferred. Print news writing experience or a degree in journalism or related field is required.
Hours vary and can include weekends or nights.
The ideal candidate should be able to work as a member of a team but also be able to develop stories and work independently. A motor vehicle record check is required, so candidates should have an excellent driving record. A pre-employment drug screen is also required.
Picayune is located in Pearl River County, Miss., close to NASA Stennis Space Center, 50 miles northeast of New Orleans and 50 miles northwest of Gulfport.
