Buster Sports is seeking two writers that also have backgrounds in radio to cover Big Ten and Big 12 football and basketball. Starting pay is negotiable commensurate with talent, expected to be ~$40K yearly.

Applicants must be quality writers and devoted journalists capable of approaching his or her coverage from a variety of angles. Standard news coverage is acceptable, but we want someone who understands and shares our vision about how college sports should be covered. Expectations are that each writer will host a daily internet radio show and also write blog entries throughout the day. Buster Sports wants to be edgy and outspoken.

You also must be willing to relocate if necessary and to travel to best cover your beat. Optimally, applicants should be centrally located in the conference they cover.

Please send a resume and clips to Dan Ballard, CEO of Buster Sports- [email protected]

Do you get to work for this guy?

I think he answers both of those in the post ...

The pay and living situation were both edited into the post after I asked.
Thanks for the answer Dan.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
I talked to someone today who said they have received more than 100 resumes. That's interesting.

It is interesting. It sounds like a great opportunity, but there's no established Web site or any sort of reputation (that I know of, anyway). Has this site received credentials to cover these conferences? Granted, there must be some good money going into this if they're going to pay these people $40k, but isn't anyone else a bit skeptical about this?

Yeah --- the Web site isn't even functional yet. And if this site is STARTING the job search for a Big Ten and Big 12 writer two weeks before the season begins, they couldn't have thought too far ahead.

To me, that's got to send up a few red flags. Sounds like they've got a lot of money, but they don't have a clue ... so, I guess, they're a lot like most newspaper owners.

but they have a job opening, and that's what matters in this market.

You're right. But, for the record, I never said I didn't send them my resume ...

I have a healthy dose of skepticism, but nothing a first paycheck couldn't cure.

From what I understand, they've been quietly searching for some time, but they haven't found anyone they are comfortable with. That's why they decided to make their search more public now. They've had the ACC, SEC and Pac-10 locked up for a few months, plus they have some other people in place.

The money is certainly there, and from what I've been told, the vision is as well. The web site and shows are expected to launch at the first of October. And yes, they've been credentialed for games.

The word "contract" seems somewhat important. Good plan, but they'll forgive us if we're not all that trusting right now.

Seems like a few posters understand the opportunity. There are concrete reasons why we are rolling out the conferences as we are.

Thank you to all those who have applied. We are beginning second round callbacks this week.

We thank everyone who provided clips/resumes/articles. We received approximately 150 applications and have currently selected our primary hosts. As opportunities arise at Buster Sports, we will utilize this site (among others) to fill these openings. For all that applied previously, we also intend on utilizing those submittals for any new opportunities at Buster. Thanks again for the great response.

Dan Ballard,
CEO Buster Sports
