Description:
The Porterville Recorder, an award-winning under 10,000 daily in Porterville, Calif., is looking for an energetic, passionate Sports Editor with a broad interest in sports and recreational activities, who can help us build a community-centered sports department. With coverage in print and on the Web — from prep sports to rodeo and the raceway, summer wooden bat league baseball to hiking, hunting and fishing — our readers want it all and our next Sports Editor will help us deliver. Minimum one year newspaper experience with a passion for community connections as well as good technical skills (InDesign, design experience and sharp writing) are required. Strong preference will be given to in-state candidates. The Porterville Recorder is part of the Freedom Communications Inc. family of newspapers and TV stations. Porterville is located 45 miles north of Bakersfield and near great outdoor recreation in the southern Sierra Nevada. As a valued member of the Freedom family, you will be offered a wide array of health, savings and retirement plans, educational and training programs and employee discount programs. Freedom's benefits and compensation programs are some of the most competitive in the industry. You’ll work with a small but enthusiastic group of associates who look forward to coming to work every day. Check us out at www.portervillerecorder.com. To apply, please send resume, cover letter, samples of work and references to Managing Editor Brian Williams, The Porterville Recorder, 115 E. Oak Ave., Porterville, CA 93561 or e-mail: [email protected].

I've worked with Brian Williams for about a year, he's a great editor with a background in sports. You'll never find a better editor that'll go to bat for you. This is a great position for somebody seeking a change of scenery or is looking for management experience. Last time I checked, this was a two-person show.

Good luck to whomever applies, but to say this is not a garden spot of California would be an understatement.

That goes without saying, it's advertising it's distance to Bakersfield... BAKERSFIELD!

And if that's not enough excitement, Fresno's only a couple of hours away as well!
