The Norman (Okla.) Transcript seeks an experienced Sports Editor to help lead its award-winning Sports Department in a community of more than 100,000 residents that is home to the University of Oklahoma, a top Division-1 athletic program.
Our Sports Editor must be a skilled journalist and can develop and present local content for print and digital platforms. He or she must understand the importance of creating the best multi-media outlet of interesting, insightful and authoritative local information. A solid grasp of journalism ethics, libel and public record laws are required.
Our Sports Editor must embrace the fact that today’s sports department operates around the clock, with frequent website and social media updates. Applicants should have some prior newspaper experience and coverage of university level sports is a plus. Key attributes include effective communication, the ability to work and meet multiple deadlines and the willingness to become part of an active community.
The Norman Transcript is a 7,000 circulation, seven-day newspaper in central Oklahoma. Print publications publish Wednesday through Sunday.
