The Guymon Daily Herald, an award winning, six day daily afternoon paper, located in the Oklahoma Panhandle, has an opening for a Sports Editor. This position requires covering schools in our local area. Writing and pagination skills required, Indesign is used to paginate pages, some photography skills helpful. Daily pages and special sections will be required of this position. this is pretty much a one man show. There are a few stringers that help out, but the job is primarily that of the Sports Editor. Salary based on experience. This is a full-time position, and night and weekend work will be necessary. What would that say about Guymon, if he/she wanted to leave so bad they'd take Elk City?

Don't know anything about the paper, other than it is small. But did some research on this town. It is the definition of hell on earth.

Guymon is tall cotton for that area (although they have no cotton and not many trees IIRC). It's a very sparsely populated region and a town of 10K+ is therefore a big deal. That said, if you're making 10 bucks an hour you're probably well-paid in a town that isolated.

Guymon tried to jump in and get a piece of Liberal's action when the newspaper war was going on up there. I think they were calling themselves the only daily paper serving the Oklahoma panhandle "and neighboring counties in southwest Kansas." I imagine they cowered back to the panhandle once that got settled.
