The Bellingham Herald has an immediate opening for a sports copy editor. Experienced journalists with excellent news judgement, editing, design and online skills are encouraged to apply. Our 6-person staff covers 11 area high schools, one college and community sports in a county known for its outdoor activities.

The successful candidate will work with the sports editor and staff in the production of the daily section and online site. We are looking for creative, energetic, detail-oriented candidates who bring innovative ideas into our coverage and presentation.

The Bellingham Herald is a 25,000 circulation, McClatchy daily newspaper serving Bellingham and Whatcom County. The Sports section received two Top 10 APSE section awards earlier this spring, as well as an SPJ writing award.

Whatcom County is located in Northwest Washington along Puget Sound. The area is known for its many recreational sports, including running, biking, skiing and snow boarding.

Interested candidates should send resumes and work samples by May 28 to Sports Editor David Rasbach at [email protected].

There are many better places in the PNW than Bellingham. It is a good paper though, and one of the newer McClatchy additions.

I had a friend visit Bellingham a while back for the first time and she said the people there act like they're in Canada.
They have Canadian TV stations and a lot of people talk with a Canadian accent.
She said she wanted to shake people and tell em they're American, not our neighbors to the north.

Sounds like she should move to Texas. And it's Canadian if you're keeping score at home.

Nope, I know no one in this industry. I'm just a troll.

All candidates will be considered, regardless of previous experience. The pay scale will depend on previous experience and skills.

Give this job a good thought. David's good people, he's won APSEs, and he can eat the hell out of pizza. But as far as poker goes, he's an unknown, so caveat operor.

so, a person could supplement their income?

Heard there may be some movement on this one toward the end of June.
