Missed this if it was posted.

Some scary photos and video of the flight that blew an engine and window. Took off at LGA and landed safely in Philly.

Obviously tremendous work by the pilots. Could have been tragic.

Don’t know if in the same situation my first thought would be to put it on Facebook Live.

I imagine they're lucky they were so close to Philadelphia when the blowout happened, but a story like this actually heartens me in a way. It shows just how much has to go wrong for a plane to go down. I know that sounds strange, but it's what I need to tell myself to keep getting on them.

I've talked about this before, but seven things need to go wrong, on average, for a plane to go down. Plane crashes are like tragic miracles.

I listen to Joey Scarbury's "Greatest American Hero," for takeoffs, landings and any major turbulence. I find it strangely calming.

Allegiant Airlines just breathed a huge sigh of relief.

In that 60 Minutes story, Southwest was a notable absence when Kroft named the airlines that provided their maintenance records on request. There's no way SWA wasn't asked. That said, stuff happens. And I still wouldn't get on an Allegiant plane if they were paying me.

This was I believe the first fatality in Southwest's history. Since they only use one type of plane, the 737, maintenance is easier to do. For an engine to explode is so rare, I'm sure th NTSB and FAA will be all over that airplane for some time.

Sounds like there was a fuel leak and fire in the engine.

As those planes go, it isn't that old. 2005. Be interesting to find out if that engine was ever replaced. Some of those 737-700s go back to the late 90s.

News reports said that the woman was a vice-president at Wells Fargo in her 40s.

In our screwed up legal system, that means the airline will at least have to pay a little more. She was a high earner with decades to live, hence, a better settlement.
