If you read the article, he's since changed his mind on funding and the whole isolation thing (not sure about his views on gays, to be honest). But by the early '90s, it was known that AIDS wasn't spread by casual contact. There's no reason for his ignorance on the matter at all.

If you're changing your opinion on a daily basis, then yeah, that's pretty bad. But if it's something you've changed your mind on with age, I'd like to think that wouldn't be frowned upon. We do get smarter with age, or so I'd hope.

Huckabee's plan to eliminate the IRS in favor of a national 23 percent sales tax will do him in long before this will.

It's a wonderful debate line -- not so much a policy that you can defend on the stump. As soon as he starts taking tough questions from the press -- which will happen whenever his numbers flatten out a bit -- that's going to really hurt him.

I don't know. Remember when Karl Malone got all weird when Magic came out with the HIV thing? I don't think public opinion was that evolved in the early 90s.

That being said, I think huckabee will crack under the pressure. he's not as politically savvy as the last Ark. governor to run for prez.

Bravo, mustard. It requires a measured evaluation of each candidate and their records, rather than talk-show yapping. One reason why I will vote neither for Edwards nor HRC in my primary here is that I know they voted for the AUMF in Iraq -- and HRC for that idiotic Kyl-Lieberman amendment -- purely to maintain their political viability, as HRC's hubby would put it, down the road. They gambled with the lives of soldiers, lost, and now think better of it? Sorry, kids. On the other hand, if a guy's position on AIDS has evolved at roughly the same way that society's has, I don't have a problem with it.
