Finally got the chance to watch the premiere of SNL UK, and I was impressed. While I may have not understood all the impressions, the show wasn't too British just for the sake of being British.

Tina Fey was a perfect debut host to bridge the two shows together. Seems like George Fouracres (who played the PM in the cold open) is the utility player anchor of the cast, much like Mikey Day in the US.

With the Update pairing, the female anchor gives me the Amy Poehler vibes, while the male anchor was more dry and sardonic, like Norm or Dennis Miller.

The premiere of SNL UK is now live on Peacock as of Sunday night. Will check it out at a later time, but I've seen some mixed reviews so far, but it may just be a matter of them finding their footing.

Just watched the second SNL UK episode. Two things stand out to me: 1) they almost never break character and laugh (unlike the giggle fits that have become all-too-common on the U.S. version of the show), and 2) it looks like they memorize all their lines and no one other than the host appears to look at cue cards. Kind of interesting to observe…

Another little quirk my wife and I like: they come right through the "fourth wall" of a sketch to introduce the musical act.

I disagree. In every sketch, you can catch the actors, including the host, glancing off camera to read the cue cards.

Saw a clip from the Tonight show with Jaafar Jackson, Jermaine's son and the star of the upcoming bio pic on Michael.

Made me think: in the 50+ years of SNL, Michael has to be the biggest musical act (that was still active while the show has been on) to never appear on the show. Next act that comes to mind is John Lennon, but one would presume he would have eventually made it on had he not been killed.

The first two years of SNL coincided with the last two years of Elvis' life, but he was such a shell of his former self by then.

One that I'm a little surprised about: Weird Al Yankovic. I'll admit to being a little biased as such a big fan of his, but you'd think he would've made at least one appearance over the years -- especially in the '80s, when he was all over MTV.

Cold open worked great. And loved the new take on the 5 Timers Club. The Paddington joke killed. Jack Black is in the circle of trust of hosts.

An aside; Great to see Candice Bergen. She was on an episode of Shrinking this season. Loved her scene with Harrison Ford. It was like seeing 100 years of amazing acting careers I’ve loved wrapped up in a bow.
