But I read it anyway, because it takes .3 seconds.

This punch line suggests someone younger than 80 wrote today's strip. Not sure this is keeping with the spirit of Beetle:

I do agree the dog should speak english, however.

For Beetle Bailey, it is quite a scandalous leap. Although the sergeant does his fair share of swearing in indescipherable "#$#^%%"s, they could mean anything as harmless as "lousy darn idiot." In this strip, only one kind of word (a verb involving coital actions or self-gratification) can fill that blank.
