Red Line Editorial is seeking writers interested in joining our freelance coverage of Olympic and Paralympic sports.
We work with different organizations within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic sports realms to produce stories for their websites. Most of our assignments are one-off features based off phone interviews, though we also provide remote event coverage. The stories appear on those organizations' websites, but writers work through RLE and are paid by us.
Our most successful writers have a natural curiosity about the different Olympic and Paralympic sports, and then are able to write about them in a simple yet engaging way. Writers don't need to be experts in any given sport, though it helps to have a general familiarity with how this ecosystem operates. For example, if you're writing about fencing you'll be asking questions about results in World Cup and Grand Prix competitions, and how those relate to the World Championships, etc.
For full disclosure, if you're, say, really interested in track and field and are looking for consistent work covering that sport, this probably isn't what you're looking for. A regular writer for us might be covering water polo one week, rhythmic gymnastics the next, and archery after that. The caveat is that if you're particularly interested in Para sports, we do have more consistent opportunities there.
