Paul Finebaum's radio silence has an end date: Aug. 1.

Finebaum, the polarizing personality of college football's signature call-in show, is leaving the Birmingham, Ala., market where his contract expired in January, for Charlotte, N.C., and a national forum: ESPN. His multi-tiered platform will include a radio program on ESPN networks, 100 televised appearances annually on ESPN and a TV simulcast of his radio show on the ESPN-owned SEC Network launching in August 2014.

"It would be the understatement of my life to say I wasn't thrilled," Finebaum said.

So he really, really, really isn't thrilled?

A quick SEC baseball tangent. Missouri is getting its introduction to a time-honored conference tradition: the late game at the baseball tournament that completely blows deadline and pisses off sports writers from Columbia to Columbia. Mizzou and Mississippi State tied 1-1 in the top of the 14th inning. Fun times.

EDIT: On to the 15th, which ties a tournament record. Missouri has only used two pitchers so far.

Good point, that quote makes no sense when taken literally.

And, btw, isn't Pawwwl abandoning everything that made his show interesting by leaving Bama? I don't know his show well, but the couple times I have heard it my impression was that there's nothing interesting about Paul himself, instead the appeal comes from the looney land cast of call in characters.

I'd think somebody else could fill that gap in the Bama markets quite easily, and ESPN may end up disappointed at what a dud they just hired.
