The AP will NOT be photo staffing the first three (corrected) days of the SEC baseball tournament.

Yeah, that's what I said.

Butch Dill, who strings for AP, is looking for some side work on Thursday and Friday ... but no joy on the first day, he has other plans.

No surprise. At all. This is the same AP that wasn't staffing University of South Carolina basketball HOME games when they were like 18-5 until I started firing off nasty e-mails. They told me since they weren't ranked they couldn't cover them.

Then, they started covering them.

Actually, AP is not photo-staffing the first THREE days of the SEC Tournament. At least that's my understanding. Will be staffing Saturday and Sunday. And if you want to put in a special order, be prepared to take out a loan.

As Henry said, Butch Dill can shoot Thursday and Friday but not Wednesday. Anybody know a free-lancer who can shoot the Ole Miss game on Wednesday and not charge 1 zillion dollars?

Fixed my original post ... thanks.

Our guy is down there shooting and he might be interested in freelancing. Marc F. Henning 479-957-3466.

Rusty, Henry ... any word on whether our Mississippi AP is going to shoot the C-USA tournament in Hattiesburg? Called them tonight and a woman who sounded like she couldn't care less said she'd have to get back to me.

redsoxman: tell your guy to demand one hundred million dollars.

Lordy, I can't imagine that they would ... Rusty's sister paper in Hattiesburg might have designs on some foto coverage out of there, though.

Either way (AP or the American on the wire) works for me. We've officially hit the lull between high school sports and summer sports, and pictures of something other than the NBA playoffs and major league baseball would be nice to have for the front page.

And another thought occurred -- if the AP isn't shooting the SEC tournament, will any pictures from the Birmingham News pop up on the wire?

They covered Kentucky ...

I'll never tell said:
AP didn't shoot the Seniors Event in B'ham this past weekend either. WTF?

My understanding, and this is second-hand, is that the AP has quit shooting Champions Tour events. (I wonder if that includes the seniors' majors. I dunno.)

And that's fine ... but you'd think when a state has a limited number of professional events, state AP would shoot those events for its customers inside the state

Duh, AP doesn't care about its state customers anymore.
AP works to fill the news hole for yahoo and the other online sites that pay for the wire.
All the local bureaus are working on national angle stories now. Any local stuff getting churned out is accidental, or something they tried to make national and couldn't.

I wish people would wake up and realize this.
