Glad to see Sanchez get the no-hitter. Saw the last three innings. I covered him when he was in Double A and never thought he would crack a rotation because he was too wild. He's always had great stuff, just not great control. Hopefully, this will help his cause to stay in the rotation. Nice job.

Yeah, let's hope things turn out better for him than they did for the last guy named Sanchez to pitch a no-hitter in the big leagues.

Or the last guy named Bud Smith, for that matter.

That poor guy. For the rest of time, he'll be the reason a kid with five career starts gets pulled with a no-no intact after 95 pitches.

The night before when Lincecum had a no-no into the 7th, I put something about it on Facebook, which of course jinxed it. All my friends got on my case, so I responded: "OK, tomorrow night when Jonathan Sanchez is pitching I won't mention the word no-hitter.... HA!"

That story also has Sanchez as a reliever. I'm guessing the Giants didn't need a fifth starter for a little while and used him a couple of times out of the bullpen. He's got nasty stuff, but he was 2-8 with a 5.30 ERA and 1.69 WHIP before Friday's no-no.

Bizarre to think that no one has ever thrown a no-no while wearing a Mets uniform.

According to the mighty Wiki, 14 men who played for the Mets threw no-hitters with other teams, the list topped by Nolan Ryan with seven. Tom Seaver lost three no-nos in the ninth inning while with the Mets before finally completing one with Cinci. Hideo Nomo threw one before joining the Mets and one afterward. Dwight Gooden and David Cone are the two former Mets who did the deed while wearing the other New York team's uniform.

Tampa Bay and Colorado are the other teams with no no-nos in their histories. San Diego hasn't had one since 1972.

At the other end of the scale, Bill Stoneman got Montreal its first no-hitter in the franchise's ninth game, on April 17, 1969.

I'm almost sure San Diego's never had one. Did the Padres throw a shortened no-no in '72? Fay Vincent wiped those from the books in the early '90s. David Palmer and Melido Perez still haven't forgiven him!!!

I'm pretty sure the Padres have never thrown a no-hitter. I remember a famous story about Preston Gomez pulling a guy (Clay Kirby?) after eight innings because the Padres were trailing and there's been a major jinx ever since.

Padres have never thrown a no-hitter.

In fact, the Padres have only thrown 21 one-hitters (16 solo, 5 were group efforts), last one being this June 28 against Texas (Gaudin 8 IP, 1 H to M. Young in the 1st; Bell SV).

Only other Padres' one-hitter this decade was <a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SDN/SDN200609220.shtml">9-22-06</a>, when Chris Young took one into the ninth against Pittsburgh. Joe Randa homered with one out to break it up.

The Padres have never thrown one. And, yes, Gutenberg, it was Clay Kirby who was pulled with the no-hitter, although he was losing 1-0 at the time.

If they trade Peavy, who knows how long it will be before they finally get one in this age of six-inning starting pitchers.

Other than Kirby, the closest the Padres came to a no-hitter was a pitcher named Steve Arlin, who went 8 2/3 before giving up the first hit.
