Are San Diego's streets just insanely and unnaturally wide, or is that by design? Every one that I saw in that video, whether it was downtown or a residential neighborhood, looked like it was four lanes.

Agreed. Until the pilots or controllers correct a **** up.

Which happens an awful lot for some odd reason. That Air Canada thing could have been worse than Tenirife, which I remember.

If you look it up, you can find recordings of SFO ATC goof ups, and NTSB investigations, and FAA cracking on them. Sure, plenty of near **** ups everywhere, but what I saw looked like SFO was abnormally high.

Fort Lauderdale is kind of freaky coming in from the other side. You pass over the green of the Everglades for what feels like 30 minutes and then, all of a sudden, you hit the western edge of the South Florida metropolis and you can actually see the dividing line between the swamp and civilization.

It also shows how far developers pushed those communities into the swampland. Some areas have flood problems.

Taking off from National is crazy. The steep climb and hard banks to avoid restricted airspace are always fun.

The takeoff out of John Wayne/Orange County is like that too. Pilots need to be careful not to scrape the back of the plane, especially on a long plane like a 737-900.
