So here's the situation:
You have a coach relating off the record a story that was told to him by someone else, in which he uses a derogatory term for Cajuns (if you haven't heard it, check Deadspin or Every Day Should Be Saturday).
Is this worthy of an "official" statement by the university? On the one hand, I don't think there are many Cajuns who take offense to the term Saban used. The conversation was off the record, meaning Saban could technically operate under the assumption that the comments wouldn't be recorded and put on the Internet.
Personally, I think if a university issued an official statement every time a head coach said a bad word, nobody would ever get anything done. Is this an issue or a smear campaign?
