Almost 400 credits, played the dad both to Patty Duke, the Hardy Boys and seven different characters on Gunsmoke through the years.

Fenton Hardy! I never would have guessed that if you hadn't said it, but just the reference brings me back. There are so many nostalgia stations now, I'm surprised The Hardy Boys isn't getting some run somewhere.

Good quote at the end, though it also goes for journalists and other careers ...

Asked in the TV Archive interview what advice he would give to aspiring actors, Schallert said: “Just make sure you need to act. It’s not enough to like it, it’s not enough to want it. It’s got to satisfy a real need in you. Because otherwise you won’t be able to tolerate the bull****, which you’ll inevitably find.”

I stand corrected - Schallert played Nancy Drew's dad Carson. A guy named Ed Gilbert played the HB's dad Fenton.

So ****ing true.

Crap I hate the internet...FB....etc. Apologies.

I'm fairly certain I clicked it on Yahoo's news feed. Fwiw.

And he did appear in an episode of Wanted Dead or Alive playing Craig the Bartender - the title of the episode was "The Littlest Client."

Maybe he was identical cousins, too, and now both of them are dead.
