LOS ANGELES - Tom Poston, the tall, pasty-faced comic who found fame and fortune playing a clueless everyman on such hit television shows as "Newhart" and "Mork and Mindy," has died. He was 85.

Poston, who was married to Suzanne Pleshette of "The Bob Newhart Show," died Monday night at home after a brief illness, a family representative, Tanner Gibson, said Tuesday. The nature of his illness was not disclosed.

Funny guy who married up. RIP.

Re: RIP Tom Potson

I had forgotten too that he was married to Pleshette. ****, I can't believe she's 70 already. Man life's flying by. She was gorgeous back during the original Bob Newhart Show, and that sultry voice made her even sexier. Poston was great in "Newhart" as the dopey handyman (they need to release the episodes from that show on DVD like they have with the 70s TBNS) and seemed like a nice guy. I never met him, but I ran the original Web site for Bob Newhart back in the mid-late 1990s and got Poston's autograph in the mail. I remember him sending a picture and asking that I send a picture of him in return for his fan wall.

Oh well. Life is indeed a bittersweet symphony. RIP Tom Poston.

RIP Mr. Poston.

Him and Newhart had great chemistry on that show.

That is so cool that he would want to remember his fans.

I loved both Newhart shows, and Mork and Mindy. He added so much to both those shows.

RIP

He was in an episode of Dream On as a popular kid-show clown (Mr. Bouncy) who got caught getting a certain sexual favour in an alley.

Great, great stuff. RIP.

Although he was clearly slumming in the role, he was excellent as the amoral father to the Dave Thomas pharmacist character in Grace Under Fire. Poston and William Schallert are perhaps the two most venerable character actors in TV history. R.I.P.
