When I moved to central PA, one of the first sports shows I watched regularly was Savran and Guy Junker on FSN Pittsburgh. They were uniquely Pittsburgh. RIP.

Respected his work and enthusiasm, especially when Jim Leyland's Pirates were good. RIP

When I think about Pittsburgh sports media personalities, his was always the first name to pop in mind.

Sportsbeat with Stan and Guy Junker was my youth growing up. I think it started as a de facto pregame show for the Pirates and Penguins games that were on the now defunct KBL network and grew to become a staple of western Pennsylvania sports talk. In an industry in a city that’s dominated with narcissistic jackasses, it’s telling that no one— and I mean no one — has a bad thing to say about the guy and never has. And I stole this from a friend of mine on Facebook.

Stan made his name in Pittsburgh, but he was actually a Cleveland native -- and he knew what was what. I became a fan of his for life when I heard him on DVE talking about how he interviewed Art Modell -- who returned to the area for the opening of Heinz Field as a favor to Dan Rooney. "I wanted to leap over the table at him," he said. "He thinks he's the victim."

Did Stan wear a rug? That’s the only bad thing you might be able to say. The hair looked suboptimal.

Also was the voice of Penn State football for a couple years while Fran Fisher took a break.

I first read this thread title as RIP Starman.

I initially thought the arraignment pushed him over the edge.
