France's best known chef died at age 91. Leader of the nouvelle cuisine school of the 1970s. Inventor of the modern celebrity chef, replete with multiple restaurants, food endorsements, TV shows, etc. There's a city square and the city's indoor market named after him in his hometown of Lyon. This will be the biggest story in France today and for several days to come. PS: The food at his restaurant was really good.

RIP. And indeed his foie gras and truffle soup was magnificent. He created that recipe when France awarded him the Legion of Honor Medal.

When discussing French chefs, let's not forget Auguste Gusteau — chef, author and TV personality.
