Covered the Suns for a while at the East Valley Tribune, also worked at the Arizona Republic and other "Valley" publications.

Died Tuesday night at age 62, after a workout.

He was a friend of my dad's ... only met him once but he seemed like a nice guy. His wife also is in newspapers. RIP, Mike.

Details and a tribute from The Republic: Longtime Valley sportswriter Mike Tulumello dies at 62

Mike did some work for us in the Valley, including tons of spring training. He was a good guy. Very sad news.

Very sad to hear that. I knew Mike from during my time in Phoenix and he was a good guy. Definitely very opinionated, but wasn't afraid of doing some hard work and didn't mind getting his hands dirty. He was the kind of sports writer who would do everything he could to beat you and then be happy to talk about it over a beverage after hours. Really hate it for Kathy and his two sons.

Mike great to me when I was a young pup who would drop in to cover the Suns from time to time. Learned a lot from watching the way he worked a locker room. Was sad to hear about this yesterday.

Bought his book about a year with the Suns when it came out. Really enjoyed it.

Always got a kick out of seeing Mike and that newsboy cap of his whenever I was on assignment in Phoenix. RIP.
