LAS VEGAS - Lee Hazlewood, a singer and songwriter best known for writing and producing "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" for Nancy Sinatra, has died. He was 78.

He also produced for Duane Eddy and Gram Parsons.

I liked this line:

Hazlewood was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2005 and released his final album, "Cake or Death" in 2006.

His duet with Nancy Sinatra on "Jackson" was referenced in a recent USA Today page about the music of 1967.

These Boots Were Made for Walking is one of the sexiest videos ever. And one of the best bass lines ever.

Condolences to Phaedra.

Too fast, smash.
That was going to be my request.
Art Bell used to play it every night.
"One velvet mornin' when I'm...straight..."

I'm sorry .... I really am .... and I know I'm probably being ignorant here ... but what's "Phaedra?"

Quite possibly the weirdest record ever to make Top 40 radio. And technically titled, "Some Velvet Morning." Lyrics to follow, but they don't do justice to the funhouse spookiness of the arrangement.

Lee:
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in
Some velvet morning when I'm straight

Nancy:
Flowers growing on the hill
Dragonflies and daffodils
Learn from us very much
Look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name

Lee:
Some velvet morning when I'm straight
I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra
and how she gave me life
and how she made it in
Some velvet morning when I'm straight

Nancy:
Flowers are the things we knew
Secrets are the things we grew
Learn from us very much
Look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name

That's such a great, creepy record. I think some of his old albums were re-released a few years ago on a label run by Steve Shelly (drummer for Sonic Youth)

Thanks for the assist FB ...
You've peaked my curiosity. I need to iTune that or something.
