Best Olympic Delegation would be a heckuva spinoff thread, albeit one I’m not remotely qualified to comment on.

That'd be so hard to do because there are so many sports in the Games and which ones attract a following change with time. I mean, I can still name boxers off the US teams from '60 to '76 and none in this century. Simone Biles is one of the most famous athletes in the country, rightly so, and until Olga Korbut came along, I was unaware women's gymnastics was in the Games. But in men's track and field, the '60, '64 and '68 teams were all loaded and the men's basketball teams were just ridiculous. '60 team starting backcourt was Oscar Robertson and Jerry West. '64 team had Bill Bradley, Walt Hazzard, Luke Jackson and Larry Brown.
