She deserves a biopic -- wish she could have seen while still with us.

Sometimes I wonder how much of the Veronica Corningstone character from Anchorman was cribbed from Barbara Walters.

Funny, I was just reading the Wikipedia page about Hugh Downs earlier today after I saw him in a 1973 commercial hawking the new ‘74 Country Squire station wagons for Ford. He lived to be 99. That was quite a paring with Walters on 20/20, which I do remember but was too young to really understand its impact.
My real memory of her is that my mom loved saying Baba Wawa after Gilda Radner’s
impression.

RIP. We could use a lot more like you, Ms. Walters.

Just wait till Pope Benedict kicks it on NYE. They all wait until they clear Christmas, just so we can say "(fill in the year) ... man."

That View tribute was something else - I mean Oprah would have been enough for most people. The only quibble was that it aired in the morning, instead of given a primetime slot. I'm guessing there were specials and such - but probably not enough time to adequately sum up her career. Rose up from "girl reporter" to interviewing world leaders, redefined the celebrity interview where those featured felt it was both an "honor" and knowing they might not like the finished product and it would be uncomfortable. And even with the freakshow that The View is at times - made women, and women's voices a serious player in politics.

Early on, I was not a fan. She was Baba Wawa, right?

Not much later, I realized how how hard she worked,
and against tough odds back then. Always respected her after that.
