Parelli was not the first Patriot quarterback. Parelli played for Oakland in 1960. He went to Boston in 1961 and in that season and basically split time with the incumbent quarterback, Butch Songin, before taking over in 1962.

****. Damn autocorrect, and it was early in the morning for me. Then again, the Packers did go 1-10-1 in 1958, so they probably did have a poor offensive line and busted a lot of plays.

Parilli did play in the Super Bowl, when Namath came out briefly in the third quarter.

He was also supposed to be a great kick holder, back in the days when most teams used backup QBs (not punters) as the holders, under the rationale they'd be able to do something if the snap went bad.
