RIP Alvin Dark

Giants/Braves/Cardinals shortstop in the 1940s & 50s, and later Giants and A's manager in the 60s and 70s. Dead at 92.

His reputation wasn't the greatest, even in his own time. He was a Holy Roller and probably a racist.

But he accomplished quite a bit in the game. At 92 he had to be one of the oldest living former All-Stars.

Oft forgotten, was manager of the A's in 1974-1975, won a World Series. In 1974 in an August game at Fenway, saw him argue a call at third, pull the base up and throw it into the stands.

I remember when he managed The Indians in late 60's/early 70's. Had an interesting
group of players including Sudden Sam McDowell, Luis Tiant, Craig Nettles, Ray Fosse
Chris Chambliss and Hawk Harrelson
