Loved him in Coupe De Ville.

Little Miss Sunshine is the obvious one, but my favorite role of his was as John Cusack’s psychiatrist in Grosse Pointe Blank.

I also have a soft spot for him as the retiring camp director in Indian Summer.

He'd already won a Tony by then. Made everything look too easy. Drama. Comedy. If he had chewed more scenery, he'd have won more awards.

And a mensch, by all accounts.

Oh man. I once interviewed (with Mike Richards of all people) Mr. Arkin and I even arranged to conduct it in the very same VW bus from Little Miss Sunshine (it helped that the bus was stored on the lot we filmed our show at). He was surprisingly kind and sweet, inquisitive and of course side-splittingly funny. He will be missed.
