I know of some guys who play golf with players sometimes on the road, too. You spend that much time together, you have to be human beings at some point. I have no problem with it whatsoever.

So long as, if something ever comes up that requires him to do so, reporter discloses relationship with player to readers during coverage of story.

And he remembered them verbatim and directly quoted him throughout. If Albom had written this, this thread would be entirely different. Just sayin'.

I'd argue that mentioning that the tape recorder was off was a nicely-veiled nod toward saying the rest of the conversation was paraphrased.
