I'm watching the radar and I'm about an hour away from getting slammed. There's a tornado watch up for the 'Plex, and a line of some big **** between Gainesville and Mineral Wells. I'll get the gust front from it in a few minutes and it'll drop temperatures 15 degrees — it's still 82 right now.

I looked at the radar around 11pm last night and I kid you not...that storm front stretched from Abilene to Cincinnati.

Four of the last five weekends it's rained at least one day between Friday and Sunday here. I guess we're stuck in a cycle.
There was a light rain during the game I covered tonight and there was no press box.
One thing I've learned in all the time I've done this is that at some point during the season, you will cover a game in the rain, at least once.
Accept it. Get used to it.

Oh hell no. Fifth in my division out of 11. And I bonked hard on the second 11-mile loop, so my ET sucked, sucked, sucked.

But it was a fun race. Even at 41, it's fun to play in the mud sometimes.

Here in the Gulf South it is. From maybe mid-November to March the weather pattern is the same. Two nice days with warm weather, followed by one transition day (cloudy, warm and windy) and then a stormy day, followed by two or three days of cold weather after the front passes.
Rinse, lather, repeat.
Because it's a six- or seven-day pattern, the stormy days tend to fall on the same day week after week.

Here it's a three-to-four-day pattern, actually. Right now we're on a Monday-Thursday kick. At least the weekends have been nice. But DFW is closing in on 10 inches for October, a record.

We've had rain each Friday for the what seems like the last six or seven weeks. Never fails, either.

There's a 60-75 percent chance of rain tomorrow night, and I'll be covering a football game at a school that has an open-air press box. Fun, fun.

After suffering through the worst summer drought in 40 years here in San Antonio, it's been raining frequently for a month now.
The weatherman says this is an El Nino period and rain is supposed to be plentiful for a long stretch.
We'll sure take it here in South Texas.

We've topped nine inches of rain since Oct. 1. It's gotten so bad that some old-growth trees are starting to topple. The ground is so saturated that when the wind blows, the roots just pull out of the muddy ground.

No rain here. But 18 inches of snow about 15 feet from where I'm writing this. If you're north and east of the Rockies, this storm is a whopper.

Last spring, we had rain every time the high school softball team was supposed to play at home, even on the make-up dates, except for the last home games of the season.

So they ended up playing one doubleheader at home all season...in the third week of May. Season started last week of March.

This year, it's rained on various days, but not every Friday. But it has rained at least once during any given week and a lot of the fields around here don't drain well. We're going to have a juco game here this weekend played in a quagmire -- even though it's supposed to be 60 and sunny -- because the field won't be able to dry out. But that might make it more fun to cover as long as I can still read the numbers on the jerseys.
