That might be the case in larger cities. But in smaller cities, 20-40K papers submit stories to the AP all the time. They may actually get put on the wire 25 percent of the time. AP keeps track of how many stories they put on the wire from each newspaper and how many are submitted by each.

So more than likely the radio station is getting it from the newspaper.


This isn't to say that newspapers don't listen to a radio newscast and pick up a story. BUT (and it's a HUGE BUT), newspapers actually go out and get their own story, call their own sources and write it.
