Today my best friend went to the hospital for what has become routine surgery.
I got a call from her sister around 11 and everything went fine.
I stopped by the hospital at 2. She was sleeping and looked a little pale, but I figured that since the girl just had surgery, that was normal.
Around 6:30, her sister called me and said they had to take her back into surgery for a little bleeding. I thought she would be okay, but I decided to go back to the hospital just to check.
She still wasn't out of surgery. She wasn't until about 10.
It turned out that "a little bleeding" turned into four or five transfusions. They had to open her up. She's on a ventilator, has a central line and will be in the hospital for at least a week (she was supposed to be out on Saturday).
She will need a feeding tube for a month.
The doctor says we have to take things 6-12 hours at a time and that she's not out of the woods yet.
This girl is like my sister, and I completely love her. She's been the best friend that anyone has ever been to me -- and I'm a handful.
So please, say a prayer for my friend Sara tonight.
