Pottery clay?

Any amateur sculptures or potters here?

Our house was built near an old pottery works. The works shuttered at the turn of the 20th century, but not before producing a good bit of pottery. Not surprising, it's pretty collectable.

As I was digging up part of the yard to install new lines, I dug up, what I think is, a couple hundred pounds of clay.
My questions:
1: Would there be any interest in using the clay, based on the history?
2: Do I have to do anything to the clay? Does it have to separated from the dirt or anything?

1) Probably not
2) If you want to grow something you'll need to add compost or topsoil. Clay is an awful medium for gardening.
