Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

When I worked in university communications, buzzwords were the language. And, ironically to your post, one of the groups I worked with directly was the university's School of Philanthropy and their folks were just as versed in the b.s. as every other academic unit. No one was immune.

Of course I don't agree with the ravaging of higher ed now, but the language never helped.

When did "standards" beccome "best practices?"
I like that one. It conveys more information about what is expected. It involves fixed practices that can repeat the same result. "Standards" is more amorphous and doesn't necessarily suggest that there is a single system in place to achieve those standards.

That the term is being used to convey that meaning may vary.
