This passage stuck out to me:

Thompson said the company sold Sodini a Glock Magloader and a Glock Factory Magazine for $46 in April 2008. WXPI, Channel 11, in Pittsburgh first reported that a receipt of the purchase also included a 9 mm Glock pistol. Thompson said the company did not sell Sodini a gun.

And now I just realized that a Magloader is not necessarily a gun, so I guess Thompson wasn't lying about not selling him a gun.

Also, would he take pride in having sold the shooter a weapon if one of the intended victims had cut him down with a weapon purchased from TGSCOM? "There are a lot of bad people out there, and we sold 'em their guns," he might have said, "so you need to buy one from us, too."

I'll never understand the fascination with guns, notwithstanding the Second Amendment.

And it is too bad guns are legal because if they weren't this guy could have just used some sort of a pipe bomb made out of perfectly legal materials and killed a lot more people a helluva lot quicker....

Can we ever just hold a person who is a whackjob responsible for these incidents and stop blaming an object that can't hurt a soul unless some looney tune picks it up and fires it?

Just read Dan Savage's piece on the "Pick Up Artist" culture and this dude:

Sodini clearly felt that he was entitled not just to sex and a romantic relationship, but to sex and a romantic relationship with a much younger woman. And he was following the advice of a love-and-romance guru who encouraged him to hold on to that belief and filled him with false hopes. Not normally a problem, I supposed. But Sodini wasn't just another socially maladapted schlub furious with the world—and with women—for denying him all the 22-year-old ass he felt he deserved. He was a nut. And he couldn't understand why, if he was doing everything right, he wasn't finding the success that was Steele guaranteed him.

One particularly chilling detail from Sodini's online diary was his seething resentment for a neighbor. He had seen an attractive young woman leaving his neighbor's house and was absolutely furious that his neighbor was sleeping with the kind of hot young girl that Sodini himself wanted but could never get. The girl was his neighbor's daughter.

It didn't, but there's a clear line between the danger of guns itself and the dangers of the gun for those with the intent to kill or those, like children, who are completely oblivious.
