Pirates need a new closer

Part of me is tempted to make some smart-ass comment, but honestly, I'm too disgusted by the whole thing to go that route.

The statement from the Pirates’ president misspelled Vasquez three times.

I assume you mean Vazquez?

The Pirates truly are an embarrassment.

I do wonder if any of this was somehow tied to the fight Vazquez had with teammate Kyle Crick.

The **** will really be in the fire if any teammates (or other team personnel) are found to have any involvement or knowledge of the whole thing.

Damn, I know $$ can't buy you happiness but its so bad that notwithstanding you're a pro athlete making millions, the only relationship you can scare up is with a 13 yr old out of state (FL, right?)? Okay, baseball teams (and all pro sports) need to do a better job of helping athletes (their assets) become socially adjusted to the norms of society. Teams are no longer allowed to bury their heads and say "not my problem."

He should've gone to Oregon State. Pitchers who get arrested for screwing kids there are just victims of the system.

I agree that professional sports teams could and should do more to help athletes, but I'm not so sure about your characterization of Vazquez's actions. He's a pro athlete making a lot of money. I am sure he could have found an adult. Assuming he really was with a 13-year-old, he chose that, which is even more disturbing.

I’m simply speculating that he was a fish out of water as a foreigner and had nothing to help him overcome that social deficiency. I’ll admit if my speculation was off.

I get that, but I think the more likely possibility is that the guy is a pedophile.

Teaching athletes not to mess with underage kids? Hmmmm ... if we only had a poster on this board who kept track of people in authority messing with underage kids (yes, I know the rules, but they could be adapted to this case).

The couple dozen Mariners fans I saw were louder than the collective Pirates fans. We left after the 7th inning.
