Philadelphia Continues to Get Ugly Wins...

Philadelphia was named the ugliest city out of a poll by Travel and Leisure Magazine. Miami, San Diego, and Los Angeles ranked top 3. Dallas (23), Washington DC (24), and Philadelphia (25) ranked last.

Any thoughts on this? Are Philadelphians really that ugly? I mean Rocky got beat up pretty bad, but he was a boxer.

My experience has been that there are ugly people in every city. Fat ones, too.

But Philly does have quite a lot of both, I'll admit.

There are some really great sections of the city that look great. And some views of the city are pretty - there's a great overlook in SJ in Runnemede.

The city itself isn't all that aesthetic and a good portion of the populace is downright crude and mean---ugly on the inside.

So, I think they warrant this number 1 ranking. Don't see anyplace else being even close.

Here's your things to do list. Please reserve judgment until all have been accomplished:

*Go for a walk down West River Drive in mid-October.
*Go shopping on Market Street around Christmas.
*Go eat a pork sandwich in South Philly and sit outside and watch people from hundreds of different backgrounds, countries and upbringings walk by.
*Go have a beer on Main Street in Manayunk by the river.
*Take a ride through Fairmount on a sunny late-April day with the windows down.
*Drive from Jersey over the Ben Franklin Bridge on a clear night.
*Listen to live music on Penn's Landing in late June.

Spend a weekend in the wrong part of any city, and you'll come away thinking it's ugly.

The best cities are the ones where you have to spend a month to truly appreciate their beauty. . .

And as far as the people go, if blonde hair, fake breasts and deep tans are your idea of beautiful, Philly's probably not your place. But if you're in Philly and you don't like what you see, perhaps the problem lies with the beholder.

Don't forget Boathouse Row, and my favorite - the Old City/North Liberties area.
And the Art Museum.
And Franklin Field.

It's not even Action Mountain anymore, it's a golf course (and an expensive one at that). Good restaurant in the club.
