He was looking for someone to buy equity in the team. ... not take on debt.

Although, out of the central banks, the BOJ is the one that intervened directly in their equity markets (buying equity ETFs to directly boost stock prices). So maybe that should be Jeter's next phone call. Maybe Hideki Matsui can translate for him.
