Takes the buyout and is going to ProPublica.

i'd be curious to know whether the collective thinks this move signals anything in terms of propublica's interest in sports topics? (or anything else for that matter.) sexton's background is rather impressive and diverse, so on paper i'd say no, not necessarily. but from a non-profit business development perspective, sports seems like an opportunity for PP to extend brand penetration and perhaps donor base.

was sexton involved in any of the somewhat recent horse racing investigative pieces for the nyt? the piece about quarter-horse racing's ties to mexican cartels was insane.

Boom, if you got the job, what would be your first move?

I would put the columns back into regular rotation. Start with 2- 3 younger columnist that The Times could build up and develop loyal following. I think that it was a mistake to de-emphasis columns.

Does it need fixing?

It's the best sports section in the country -- by far.

Congratulations Joe. I'm sure you will be very happy with your new endeavor.

Thanks Drip.

Let's get together for drinks again real soon -- but this time, you're buying!

The hallmark of fame is now to get your own SJ sock puppet while you're alive.

I think the buyout ended up being the good door for Joe.
Don't take it personally but Joe's buyout is probably better than your salary. It was an excellent move for a good guy.

Peace out, other than to say that the notion of you knowing Sexton well enough to say he's a good guy (I at least admit to having no idea if he is) is pure fiction. And "good door" has nothing to do with you, so why even reply?

No need to take on this dooley fellow on my behalf Dripster.

Now, when are we grabbing that drink?

I know you're busy, but we need to get together soon. It's been way too long.
