And only the Unit (in 2002) has done it in the NL since Gooden, too. Before that, you're going back to Carlton in '72, then Koufax.

Santana did it in the AL last year, Pedro in '99, the two Clemens years in Toronto, then back to Prince Hal in 1945.

Amazing how rare that feat is.

Peavy is an easy choice at the moment. Hopefully the Padres won't screw around with moving up any more starts to short rest. He has always been horrible doing that and predictably has his worst start of the year.

When a guy leads the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts, has a 1.06 WHIP and a .207 BAA on a playoff-bound team ... what is there to debate?

It's 1.06, second to Young's 1.05. I assume you were being facetious, but the day the Cy Young is decided by WHIP is the day I get laid.

It's not likely to happen.

It's nice to know. I like WHIP. It's a great way to show how effective a pitcher is. For pitching, maybe more than hitting, I think the big three stats can pretty much tell you most of what you need to know. Strikeout to walk ratio is great, so is k/9, but no matter how "meaningless" you think wins are as a whole, they're essential for a Cy Young candidate. Strikeouts and ERA, to me, are solid measuring tools.
