Sellout? WTF are you thinking?

You may love, or really enjoy, newspapers. But your happiness and family's well-being comes before any newspaper, co-worker or perception of "us vs. them."

If you walked out of your interview with the gut feeling that it was the right thing, then that should tell you what you need to know. After sleeping on it and still feeling that way, that's another sign.

You are incredibly fortunate to have been offered what sounds like a quality job, with promotable potential either there, or perhaps, elsewhere, someday, with security and an opportunity to learn and take on more technical/digital skills that may serve you far better in the future, either in the SID or school administration field or the public relations/marketing industry.

Take the job and don't look back.

You didn't sell out. You sold yourself well.

That's a good thing. Don't see it as anything else. The newspaper industry won't miss you, and you won't miss it, as long as you have put yourself into a better situation, which you have.

I would much rather deal with a handful of coaches and administrators than dozens of Little League parents.

Take the SID job.

The Little League parents are not making millions like coaches and thus, more "valuable" and powerful than you to the university. That makes them effectively your boss, at least in their outrageously egotistical minds. An SID with 19 sports is an SID with 19+ people who think he works for them. In my own experience, and in the experience of every friend I've had in that business who has done both, an SID's life is light years more stressful. There IS no time off. EVERY beat is your beat. Doesn't matter what sports you theoretically handle.
There were great aspects to the job, but I don't miss it. Not a bit, and I thought I would.

On the other hand, universities are not tearing down the SID business yet. So . . . take all the previous with a grain of layoff salt.

Congrats. Take the SID job and get your masters for free. Both jobs stink, but one can lead to something better, while the other is only about pain.

When I was looking into a similar jump it seemed every potential job paid near the same or less and the hours expected were similar. At least at my job now I set my schedule. Tally one for newspapers in this debate.
