Company: Marshall MO Democrat-News
Position:
Reporter
Location:
Marshall, Missouri
Job Status: Full-time
Salary: $15,000 to $20,000
Description:
Marshall, Missouri is the perfect place to start your career in journalism.
The Democrat-News (2,500 Mon-Fri, PM) is the perfect place to gain new skills and hone the craftsmanship you’ll need as you advance in this exciting field. Our town is the perfect size to give you access to city and county government sources, school and college administrators and other important contacts as you connect with the pipeline of Marshall.
As a key player in our newsroom, you’ll have an active role in developing budgets, learning to tell a story in photos and interacting with our social media outlets. You’ll also pay your dues by covering stale city council meetings and water board sessions. You’ll document the annual Shriner’s parade and we guarantee you’ll step in livestock poop at the county fair. But, hey, if you want to be a journalist, you’ve got to have a tolerance for a certain amount of BS. Right?
The Democrat-News is a member of Rust Communications, a wonderful family-owned newspaper chain based in Cape Girardeau, MO. We offer an entry-level salary and a complete benefits package including health and dental insurance and 401k.
Marshall, Missouri is located within an easy drive of Kansas City or Columbia. We’re not far from popular outdoor recreation destinations like Lake of the Ozarks or the Katy Trail. We’re 15 minutes from Broadway-quality theatre in Arrow Rock and two doors down from the Jim the Wonder Dog museum. Oh, yeah, Mustang Sally’s gets some big name acts on a regular basis.
