I've been charged with writing a story, which I don't mind since it gets me off the desk for a spell, but one of the sources I need is a baseball historian/expert, and I don't know where to find one.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Have experts on everything. Not just professor any more either. You will get a ton of response and most are pretty good.

There is a fellow in Maryland who is with SABR. He was veryhelpful with my research on old, minor players.
Try them. They can find someone to help.

Anyone sports-related?

Not for nothin', but I've seen some god-awful releases from that site hit my inbox.

Yep. Did a story once on Steroids and got in contact with a PR expert who represented several on the Mitchell report and gave them counsel on how to handle the situation. Since the initial poster was looking for a baseball historian I'm sure there will be a few that could get back to him.

At worst its a good site to have in the memory and its free to sign up.

I know he is somewhat hated on here by some, but Bill James usually answers e-mails now that he is with the Red Sox. Also, check with your local SABR org.

Here's a list of some other potential leads

(note: print sources are listed first, so if you don't necessarily want an author, keep scrolling)

Calling the Hall of Fame isn't a bad place to start, either.

First thought I had.

I actually went down there the other day. But I was also looking for sources not attached to the Hall of Fame or MLB.

But thanks for everyone's help. I think it turned out OK, although at this point, I'm just glad I got it done.

Your reference to being "charged with writing a story" made me think of some colleagues I'd like to see brought up on such charges, convicted and incarcerated. Not to hijack the thread or anything ...

He answered e-mails before he was with the Red Sox, too. ;)

Yeah, that was a poorly written sentence on my part. I was meaning to write that he can be contacted through the Sox e-mail system fairly easily.
