NCAA credentialing

the courtside seating is huge. and access has always been really good. no complaints there from me.

the wireless thing though bugs me. all these arenas ae already equipped with wireless and it would be easy to just turn on that signal and provide free wireless for everybody instead of having the NCAA hire some company to come in and install some dedicated system that costs $15. it's not the money, it's the fact that this company with just massive revenue goes out of its way to charge for something that they could easily provide for free.

and the no-wireless card rule ... that's just insane. god, i hope they try to enforce it with me one day.

Oh, and a postscript on the wireless issue... when I got home from Tampa Saturday afternoon, my computer wouldn't connect to my home wireless system because of something the NCAA techs did to make it connect at the arena.
I had to call my regular computer guy to come out and make a house call - $45 - to fix my computer. He told me that the arena people had essentially rigged my computer to respond to their server, but not others.
Screw you, NCAA.

couldn't you call the IT people at your paper to get you connected?

hell, make sure you expense that -- and send an invoice to the NCAA

I don't have any idea how my people could have helped me 1,000 miles away. Didn't have much choice.
But yes I do plan on billing the NCAA.

I heard about the NCAA's Wireless fee, $9.95 when ordering credentials or $16.95 day of game. The arena here, we already pay a wireless fee, we cover every event here, we are a signage partner. But we had to pay it again to cover this event.

That's ridiculous but not surprising.
I covered the ACC Tournament here in this same arena last year and the wireless was free.
So it's not a case of the NCAA covering the cost of wireless. They're making money off the backs of writers and photgraphers.

At the D3 semis and finals on Friday and Saturday, wireless was free, so it must be a case-by-case basis.

Oh, and NCAA, if you're gonna be that money-hungry, pay the players.
