Got this in our email today...
Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I'm interpreting it as "Do your job better because I'm taking your stuff to do mine and I'm getting hell..."

Coverage of the High School football scores DURING the games is virtually nonexistent. here are boxes for keeping the scores updated
quarter-by-quarter, but they aren't used. I see that there is a link below each game asking people to sign up to report on that game. It seems that no one bothers.

Please promote this more, and do whatever you can to keep the scores current.

I'm a radio deejay. During the games I broadcast, I am invariably inundated with requests for scores of other games. People seem to
think that I should know these scores, being in the media. They're right; I should. However, try as I might, I just can't find anywhere
online that keeps this information handy. It would be fantastic if you could fix this.
Thanks!

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

You're not reading that wrong.

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

Lol, wow. Lazy and nervy.

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he's just stupid.

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

Damn. That's ballsy right there.

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

That email is so breathtakingly un-self-aware, it makes you think "What is he really trying to say? Because he can't really be saying what I think he's saying."

Wow. Local radio guy sometimes read our scores all the time ... but he acknowledged where he got them on air every time. We had a good working relationship. I don't think that's your case here ... ;D

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

I've never heard of the guy and have no idea what part of the state he's from, so I have no idea what part of the state to ignore...

Re: Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy...

Maybe you could post a few fake scores, then after he reads them on the air, correct them. ;D

Over here all the papers share prep scores. I think we've even exchanged prep stories with one of the papers in the next county. That never would've happened 10 years ago.

Here's a stupid e-mail we got once: A guy on the other side of the state wanted us to start covering high schools in that area because his paper's website has a pay wall.

This jackass needs to be introduced to the wonderful world of Twitter. And then beaten with a hammer.

He responded today...

Well...yes, I guess that IS what I'm asking. It's not like there is another source available for me to turn to for scores. ( Unless there is? )
All I'm asking is that you run a story in your sports section asking people to sign up to be quarter-by-quarter score reporters. I know full well that all of us deejays across the state would greatly appreciate it, as would your other readers.
You could even put a big disclaimer up reminding people that the scores are only reported, not yet confirmed. It would at least give us something. There is really little reason for the score reporters to lie about the scores.
If this is beyond your capability for some reason, money, staffing, etc.. then that's fine. Just say so. Maybe I can find some other way.

Maybe this guy could find some other way... like simply telling his listeners that they'd like people to provide score updates on the games and would you please call, e-mail or Tweet them. Hey, no middleman required, what a concept!

Well geez, if the deejays across the state would greatly appreciate it, then by all means you should do whatever he wants you to do.

I also liked the little "beyond your capability" line at the end. Added a little bit of snarkiness when he's asking for a favor that's way out of bounds. You should tell him, "It's well within our capabilities, but I just don't give a flying **** about doing your job for you."

I don't think he's necessarily lazy, but like others have said, it sounds like he's incredibly unaware of the world and probably not real intelligent, at least socially and professionally.

Both of these. A lot of my online time during games is spent retweeting scores of games involving team in our area, sometimes from writers at competing papers that follow me. They do the same with my tweets. Readers also contribute via Facebook as well. It's an audience participation sport.

Or... here's a thought. Maybe you could get your listeners to call, text or tweet the quarter scores in your part of the state directly to you? That way, the four schools in your 5,000 watt corner of the state can inform you so you know what's going on...
Tracked down the station he's from... all that is in me wants to call his boss... and in seeing his facebook page, he's not a 20-something first-job-out-of-college... gray hair and all...

Why don't you just give Buddy Garrity what he wants? Maybe he'll give you his daughter in return.

Actually, when I explained the first email to an editor at another paper we'll call the Bacon County Baconwrap (whose who know, will know), his response -- verbatim -- was "Did you tell him to lick your nuts?"

If you'd like to ID the radio guy and provide a little contact info, I'm thinking we can all send him some HS football scores this Friday. He wants scores? Let's give him a thousand scores from across the country.

hmmmm, I like that...
I'll wait to see how he responds to this first...

I think I'm just going to suggest that if you're looking for scores in your area, you might want to be proactive enough to ask your listeners in the greater Pig's Knuckle area to email, text, tweet or call you with the scores from teams in your area.
That way, you'll have the tools to do your job instead of relying on our scattershot, incomplete website do it for you.

Thanks!

If he was a DJ, he would know to follow the right people (football parents, ADs, spouses of coaches, etc.) who probably do post the updates on Twitter and Facebook. But alas, he's only a deejay.
